The latest single from Matt Holubowski’s third album is the expressive, experimental ‘Eyes Wider’. He merges distant, almost eerie soundscapes with folky, indie songwriting like it’s no trouble at all. The track is a stretch from normalcy, with Holubowski explaining that he wanted the album as a whole to have a weird side: “I've always wanted to cultivate a certain strangeness. The title, Weird Ones, is a reference to the marginal and singular people who've inspired me and continue to do so, whether their extravagance is expressed flamboyantly or in a subtler, more introspective way”. In recording the album, the singer-songwriter collaborated with an eclectic mixture of people familiar with his work, alongside additional French horn, violin and vocals.
